This week we’re delighted to introduce you to recent Committed Program Alumni, Travis Williams. Travis is an Austin-based personal stylist who just launched her personal styling business, Approachable Style. Today she’s sharing her go-to boutiques in Austin and a handy style tip she shares with clients to make getting dressed during seasonal transitions easier.
What led you to The Paid Stylist? When did you finish The Paid Stylist program?
I found The Paid Stylist while researching internship opportunities for styling. I came across Laurel Kinney's website and there was a link to The Paid Stylist to inquire about further training on becoming a personal stylist. (Laurel is an Austin-based stylist and the Instagram manager here at TPS). I finished The Paid Stylist Committed program June 2017.
What did you do before you became a personal stylist?
I work as a Physical Therapist Assistant in a nursing home full-time and I run my personal styling business part-time right now. I’m looking forward to launching the business full-time in the near future.
Where in your city is your favorite place to shop with clients?
I try to focus on working with local boutiques when styling my clients. I have several favorite local places to shop here in Austin right now. One is Redbird Boutique. They sell trendy, modern and classy pieces. Another great boutique is OLIVE in East Austin. OLIVE carries modern jewelry by up-and-coming artists and beautiful, fun shoes by Maryam Nassir. My favorite national store is Nordstrom.
What are your favorite styling tips, tricks or philosophy?
My favorite styling tip is an oldie but goodie - a styling formula that helps with transitioning into different seasons and it also makes getting dressed effortless when going from work to play. Start with a basic, then add a layer, and then accessorize. This easy formula allows anyone to easily insert their own interpretation of their personal brand and achieve a smart, polished look in a pinch.
